If you want to get someone’s attention, raise the price. We’re not sure where that came from but it is certainly the case here in Colorado. Companies in the oil & gas industry have for the past two years, faced higher penalties for violations of the state’s health, safety and the environment rules. Now, it looks like that has their attention. Since a state law requiring violations be tagged with substantially higher fines went into effect in 2014, companies are doing a better job policing themselves, says the head of the oil & gas commission.
Solar power in the US is reported to have breezed past the 1 million solar installations milestone two months ago. Once called “bling for greens,” an array of solar panels visible on the roof of a home is no longer unusual. According to the solar industry trade association, solar installations are increasing rapidly while the cost of solar has come down. The recent upturn in solar was said to be accelerating “at warp speed.” “It took us 40 years to get to 1 million installations, and it will take us only two years to get to 2 million,” said Dan Whitten, vice president of communications at the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).
